Fashion Revolution Afteworks workshop

Hello everyone!

Hope you are doing fine. As for me I've been busy with lots of things so blogging was not my priority, although once more I admit I really missed it.
Anyway, last month was a very interesting period for me craftwise.
Maybe some of you remember that my latest 'experiment' with new reusable materials was making Christmas ornaments with PET plastic bottles and also making my debut (so to speak) as a DIY workshop animator.
Well, this workshop was a success so Stylianee from whatevewears who is Luxembourg's Fashion Revolution Coordinator asked me to do this again in the context of Fashion Revolution Week which was held from the 23th till the 28th of April 2018.
The event was hosted in Gudde Wellen and a number of ethical fashion designers and trend setters participated and presented their products, all manufactured with eco-friendly and sustainable materials.*
This time we created statement brooches made out of plastic bottles and all the participants were so full of ideas and inspiration!
So I let the photos do all the talking instead of me.
Till next time
Take care and keep on asking #whomademyclothes!

Some of the samples I prepared before the workshop
The participants were so creative and took upcycling to another level!

All materials (including nail polish!) were used

So many talented and eco conscious designers and artists gathered in one place

Our Fashion Revolution Team, me on the left and our CC in the middle  (thank you Stylianee for being such an inspiration!)

Be curious. Find out. Do something.

THE TRAGEDY AND A HOPE FOR A BETTER FASHION INDUSTRY

*Of course, as many of you now this event is taking place in every country and is part of a global movement called Fashion Revolution which demands more transparency and better conditions for garment workers across the globe.
This movement emerged after the tragic accident of the 2013 Rana building collapse where 1.134 people were killed and approximately 2.500 were injured. This is considered the deadliest structural failure accident in modern history and therefore also the deadliest garment factory accident in history.
So after this tragedy, people all over the world reacted massively and wanted to know more about the way fashion products are being manufactured.
The hashtag #whomademyclothes became viral and the movement a great success.
Moreover, this instant reaction from consumers worldwide forced the fashion manufacturers to develop a more responsible and eco friendly policy as far as their products are concerned (although a lot of things need to be done towards this direction).

Marquee sign diy project with christmas lights

A few weeks ago Ι had the pleasure to participate in a lovely workshop.
Αnna from in my closet invited me and some other girls over to her cute kitchen to make a diy marquee sign with christmas lights.
All the girls are very talented and creative people, some of them have amazing Etsy shops like Lia and  our hostess Anna and some others like Ariadne and Stella have -apart from their shops on Etsy- really interesting blogs (you should check them out by the way).

We had a blast!!The atmosphere, the laughs, the artistic spirit, the food ...Everything was great...In fact, it was so great that we decided to do it again.

So this coming Saturday we give a new appointment to Anna's kitchen with fresh, new ideas and materials to work on.
Theme project : CHRISTMAS!What else??

P.S. This is my own diy marquee sign.It took me a little longer than others to get it done but after all dreams take time to come true!  :P

Shopbevel jewelry design contest #2

Hello everyone!
Hope you're doing fine.
As for me, it was such a pleasant surprise to find some days ago in my Etsy inbox an email from one of the Shopbevel people inviting me to another contest the site is hosting which is called Mykonos Blue Design Challenge.
So without any hesitation, I have just submitted one of my designs which I thought would fit this certain jewelry design contest.
After all, the first experience was far more than positive for me.I mean, the whole process from voting till the final result announcement was very exciting and even though I didn't get to be the winner (As far as voting is concerned I was rated at about the 10th position in approximately 135 entries) I really enjoyed each and every minute of the procedure.
My new submission is this one:

It is a handmade stained glass boat pendant in cobalt and light blue, already listed in my Etsy shop and you can vote for it HERE.
Thank you in advance!

Summer farewell

What a lovely farewell  to summer this tune and clip is...

Let's just hope that sunny, warm days aren't over yet and we can still enjoy them throughout September (or further more).
But even if the weather chooses otherwise let's just keep the feelings, the images and the odors of this summer inside us as a token from this blessed season.
P.S1.Oh my...how poetic can a single video clip turn you into?
P.S2.Use full screen for watching. Then you'll get even more poetic..;).

Shopbevel jewelry design contest

Hi everyone!
I am very happy to say that one of my pendants has been submitted to Shopbevel jewelry design contest.
Shopbevel gives to young artists (either they are qualified with design degrees or not) the unique opportunity to get their designs to market.
In other words, it  provides them the chance to showcase their work and even better if they win one of the on line contests to commercialise it.
You can vote for me HERE

P.S.This one goes to all you creative and talented jewelry designers out there, why not take a chance and enter a Shopbevel contest ,too?I'm pretty sure it's worth the while...

Last but not least (a facebook page)!

Ever since I 've decided to create this blog I kept telling to myself I should have a Facebook page as well. All this time though, I thought that this wasn't an easy thing to do and I constantly postponed it because the profile I was thinking of creating was never satisfying enough for me.
I mean, having an Etsy profile for example is something that you can build consulting Etsy articles about it or checking out some shops you can relate to.

On the other hand, a Facebook page is something different.
You refer to a much broader audience, to people that have little or nothing to do with jewelry making so you have to be appealing and aproachable at the same time.

Finally, all these second thoughts came to an end and after quite a long time I 've managed to pull myself together and create a page that would be something I could at least not be ashamed of.

Anyway,enough with the rambling...
Ta dah!!

HERE it is....
Hope you really like it...
P.S. If you do, pleaaase ''like'' it!
I could use all the votes of confidence I can get! :))

New statement brass pendant

Hello dear bloggers and friends!
Long time no see, right?Or in our case I should probably write long time no post...Well,it's been rather busy for me these days so I didn't have the time to be more involved in blogging and once more I absolutely missed it.
Anyway,I think it's time I posted some of the new pieces of jewelry I have designed and created which will soon be listed on my Etsy shop.
So let's start with a very favourite of mine.It is a  new pendant  that is kind of a statement jewelry.
It is made out of brass sheet (0,3mm thick) and wire which have both been handcut and hammered and pieces of fake black suede cord.
I think this pendant is influenced by ancient civilizations and has a tribal feel to it (at least this was my original intention).
Have a look and tell me what you think about it...I'm really anxious and curious to hear your impressions!
P.S.stay tuned for more info and details at my Etsy shop. There's more to come!

One year of blogging

''Hello and welcome to my blog": Those were the very first words I ever wrote on the white surface of  my blog post space exactly a year and a day ago and suddenly a whole new world of people, images and ideas came before me.I never thought that I would be so excited about blogging. It was a totally new concept for me and I really had no idea how many creative and remarkable people were involved in this internet community.

Moreover, I didn't have a clue that I would get to catch up with all these people and that I would find myself being so tremendously anxious to read such interesting, touching or funny blog posts.
I also didn't have a clue that after a while I would be so curious and intrigued about my blog stats as well as the origin of my blog visits. That was also part of the joy and excitement,I must confess...
Ok maybe it's time I stopped being sentimental and I should  have some numbers do the talking:
1891 visits (wow, this is some unexpectedly impressive number!)
44 posts (all of which was definitely worth the time and effort).

Thank you all for this amazing journey.
Hope I will keep on blogging as long as I have something interesting and inspiring to write about.
So to all you lovely people out there I would like to say:
Take care and just stick around! :))

Hello there!
Well, I know it's been ages since my last blog post but my life has been rather busy and exciting these past couple of months so I didn't have the time for blogging (I have to admit it though, I 've missed this terribly!).
Anyway, I would like to tell you a little bit about a great give away EGST (Etsy Greek Street Team) is having and in which I have the pleasure to participate with a handmade pair of earrings  that is already featured on my Etsy shop.
This lovely team is celebrating 4 years since it has been created and has not one but fifty four gifts (yep, you've read it right folks!) to give away, organised in ten gift packs  (The giftpack where I get to take part is actually in Group # 1), each of which values more than 100 $ (yes, you've read that right too!).
All you have to do is write a wish for this team in the comments form  (be sure to write your e-mail as well so they will be able to track you down if you are the lucky winner!).
Of course, if you would like to have some extra entries you can  ''like'' the team's page on Facebook, follow the team's blog, post the giveaway on Facebook or Twitter, pin it on Finterest, or even  blog about it!

Diy decoupage plate with inspirational quotes

To tell you the truth, I always wanted to find out for myself how easy (or not) the decoupage method was. I didn't have the chance to actually see anyone doing it in front of me, so I was pretty curious and anxious if I could  transform an object into something new only by watching some videos on You tube or Pinterest. Well, I have to admit they have been very helpful and I can say that my first decoupage method has been rather succesful.
This is also my first time that I am presenting to you a diy project and I think it may not be as detailed as it should be.(The thing is I was so absorbed with the whole decoupage process that I didn't take as many photos as I ought to take in order to give you a more accurate, step by step procedure).
Anyway, I think you wouldn't have any problem with the project if you have a prior experience in decoupage but if you don't, then this video will definitely help you as it did in my case.

First of all, you will need an object that you want to transform into something new. It may be old and used or not but I think the most important thing if it is your first time will be to choose an object with a flat surface.I, for example, used an old plate which I was about to throw away. The paint had come off  since I had this plate to put some candles on and whenever I tried to clean it from the candle remains more and more red paint would come off. Well, the picture says it all...

Then I had to find pieces of paper to put them on the plate.I didn't want to put napkins or photos, I thought of putting some interesting quotes that I find very inspiring and optimistic. Pinterest had been most helpful on this stage I must admit. I found many quotes ( I prefered the ones with a black backround because I thought it would much the (remaining) red color of the plate) there and  I had to find the perfect size for them so they could fit into the plate. So  I did a lot of  copying, pasting and resizing in my computer and that took me quite a long time.
Ok now let's go back to the things and tools you 'll need ( apart from the object you want to transform ):
  • A pair of scissors
  • A decoupage medium (Mod Podge or any other glue that is suitable for decoupage)
  • Pieces of paper
  • A big flat paint brush
  • Glossy spray paint or liquid glass

Now, the decoupage method is pretty easy. You apply a thin coat of decoupage medium (Mod Podge etc) a) on the surface of the object, b) under the piece of paper and  c)  over the top of it.You have to wait for about half an hour in order to let it dry and that's it! If you would like to have  a glossy finish then you could use glossy spray paint or apply a coat of liquid glass.
Of course, I had to use an extra piece of paper in the center of the plate because I wanted to cover the part of the plate that the red paint had come off.  This gave a more vintage  look to the object and I think it kind of matched with the whole interesting quotes concept.
And ta da!!! All my favorite quotes in one place (Or should I say plate)! So inspirational for me...This plate will definitely make my day each time I have a look at it.

Have a great August everyone!

Well, I know I have not been very steady  these days as far as blogging activity is concerned. As I have said in a previous post, you can blame it all on the Greek summer. There has been an incredible heatwave practically all July long here in Greece and it seems that the temperature will be at its peek this first week of August as well. So I think it is pretty tough being focused on writing and finding themes for blogging when all you wanna do is lying on the beach and enjoying summer.
I will be spending these following days at the island of Skiathos which is one of the Sporades island and is situated in the northern of the Aegean island.I guess these short holidays is an extra excuse for not blogging. But  hopefully I will return with lots of photos (by the way this island is absolutely beautiful -a must go/see!) so I promise I will post lots of them and make up for all my absense these past days.
Wish you all the best.Have fun and make the most of this summer!!

P.S.Here's a preview of Skiathos (Some photos from the net). Hope my photos will be as good as these ones...Keep my fingers crossed!
