Ηοw to create your own coffee and tea bar area in the kitchen

Hope you are doing fine.
As for me I entered my blog after a lifetime and I was surprised to see that my latest post was about a year and a half! Wow! Time flies, indeed!

Anyway, today I would like to share with you one idea that I always thought was cool when I saw it on Pinterest and it kind of became a necessity when we moved to our new rental about two months ago.
The new house is situated in one of the most beautiful, picturesque areas of Luxembourg, full of vineyards which produce fine, prestigious, award winning wines but is mostly very very famous for a milestone EU treaty signing. Yep, you have probably guessed it by now, especially my Luxembourg followers, we live in the greater Schengen region now!

The property has a lot of great advantages like a big garden, another small one for growing vegetables (we do intend -us city kids- to become farmers in the future!), a big terrace with a great view, spacious rooms, a big storage space  with shelves BUT the kitchen cupboards are very few and some of them are 'occupied' with fitted electric appliances.
That means whenever we want to cook, take the dishes from the dishwasher machine, whatever.... things get reeal crowded at the kitchen corner!

To cut a long story short, we thought that we should somehow make an extention of our kitchen working area.
That is why the idea of a coffee bar where we could put all the coffee and tea related stuff as well as other things that could declutter the kitchen counter sounded great.

I searched a lot for the perfect piece of furniture and this one from IKEA was the ideal one.
White, simple, nothing fancy, at a reasonable price but mostly functional.

Then we needed a new coffee machine and we found one that could also make tea, how cool is that? (Since I am more of a tea than a coffee lover, you got me at tea making!)
Actually, it can prepare hot water for every beverage like tea, chocolate and even soup!

We also needed some other accessories from  IKEA like a sugar container or a honey dipper and a tea measure to add a little extra something  that would make the coffee bar look more 'professional' or hotelbreakfast-like. We added some other sweetening options  as well like agave syrup or honey which we prefer more to sweeten our tea or coffee and coffee out of guarana which is a healthier version (yep, such healthy eating freaks we are these days, no white sugar whatsoever !)

Additionally, a small wooden box bought about two years ago from the french Gifi (the equivalent of the Greek Jumbo),  could perfectly host the coffee filters on its small, cute wooden drawer apart from the tea sachets that is.

Finally, all the herbs my mother in law sent us from Greece (well, we asked her to send us some tea and she provided us with different kinds of organic herbs that will last us two or three lives, generous as ever!) were placed in different glass jars ( I actually like that they are different sizes, shapes and they sort of have a second life now) and put in a wooden tray.
Our metal fruit plates would bring color and freshness to the bar and will remind us to add vitamins to our every day routine and not just caffeine,  while a lovely velvet basket, bought from CASA could be like a wine rack so that whenever, during the late hours, we needed something stronger than coffee and tea, we would have it whithin our reach ;).

Of course, this is not a static arrangement, a lemonade container could also be handy during the summer as well as a stand milk frother that is the must have utensil for the famous Greek frappe coffee or speaking of Greek coffee this little cutie here which prepares it in a second and proved to be very useful to me especially during office hours!

Last but not least we wanted to add a little sense of humour to the set, so I bought these lovely posters from Etsy that were printed on canvas and made it quite clear to anyone that THIS is the place for coffee and tea (as if they would not have guessed by now!)

Easy weasy diy neclace holder

Hello everyone and happy June!
As I have mentioned before winter has been a rather hectic period for me for lots of reasons.
But nevertheless from time to time I had the pleasure to find a few moments for diy creations that actually kept me relaxed and gave me a boost through tough times.
One of these moments was when I finally decided to set my neclaces free...Yeah, you read it right, they were trapped and imprisoned inside a jewelry box, tangled to one another and whenever I decided to wear one of them it was so complicated (literally speaking!) that I would change my mind and say to myself: Ok then, maybe you should wear a scarf or a pair of earrings instead...Sometimes I even forgot the very existence of some of them because they were in such a mess that I didn't remember they were part of my jewelry.
So one day after some pinterest searching I decided I should give an old hanger a try and transform it into a useful and lovely neclace hanger.
To cut a long story short, this diy project took me less than half an hour to create (Ok I admit it the neclace untagling took me waay longer!)
Here are the few things I needed for that:
A metal hanger
Some round bead stoppers
Stainless steel wire
Metal wire (a 0.6-0.8 mm will do)
A side cutter
A round nose pliers
A flat nose pliers
And last but not least some beads!

First of all, you turn a piece of stainless steel wire (cut it quite long and then see if you need to cut it shorter) around the metal hanger and from time to time put one or more beads for decoration.
Then use two round bead stoppers to tighten it wherever you like, either on top or at a corner of the hanger.
Make sure the wire is fastened securely and then move on to the next step which is making some wire hooks so that you have more neclaces to hang.
You make a hook like this with the round nose pliers (sorry about the blurry photo!)

and then you hang all these hooks onto the hanger at about 5-10 cm from one another.
That, of course depends on how many neclaces you need to hang on the holder!

And ta-dah!

Diy felt christmas ornaments

Although I have to admit I've never been that much of a fan of felt diy creations (I mean I had quite a lot of different color pieces of felt fabric just hanging there in my closet that I didn't know what to do with them)  after a lovely workshop I took part recently and mentioned in a previous post and a little surfing on the Pinterest felt craft goodies I decided to give it a try and do a little extra decoration for my christmas tree.

All it  took me was some fiberglass, a needle, some thread, beads, ribbon, and felt of course!

First of all I had to choose the shape of the christmas ornaments.After a while the idea of christmas balls seemed the easiest thing to do and so I went for it.

I drew on a piece of paper a christmas ball and then I cut it. (A few blurry photos, sorry!)

I used this as a pattern for the ornaments and in order to have the perfect result I pinned this piece of paper onto the felt fabric which was folded in two.

Then I cut the felt balls carefully and I sewed them with a thread that was almost the same color as the felt 

fabric.I just left unsewed the top of it so that I could stuff it with fiberglass later on. 

After that I cut different colors of felt in the shape of a star (I used the same method as the balls-that is drawing a star on a piece of paper, cut it etc)

and I sewed it on one side of the christmas ornament along with a heart shaped bead.

Then I took small pieces of fiberglass and I stuffed them.

Finally, I sewed the top of the ornament putting a piece of ribbon in between.

Ta-dah!!(A clear photo at last!)

And the felt christmas balls are ready to be put on the tree!!

Although I have to admit I've never been that much of a fan of felt diy creations (I mean I had quite a lot of different color pieces of felt fabric just hanging there in my closet that I didn't know what to do with them)  after a lovely workshop I took part recently and mentioned in a previous post and a little surfing on the Pinterest felt craft goodies I decided to give it a try and do a little extra decoration for my christmas tree.

All it  took me was some fiberglass, a needle, some thread, beads, ribbon, and felt of course!

First of all I had to choose the shape of the christmas ornaments.After a while the idea of christmas balls seemed the easiest thing to do and so I went for it.

I drew on a piece of paper a christmas ball and then I cut it. (A few blurry photos, sorry!)

I used this as a pattern for the ornaments and in order to have the perfect result I pinned this piece of paper onto the felt fabric which was folded in two.

Then I cut the felt balls carefully and I sewed them with a thread that was almost the same color as the felt 

fabric.I just left unsewed the top of it so that I could stuff it with fiberglass later on. 

After that I cut different colors of felt in the shape of a star (I used the same method as the balls-that is drawing a star on a piece of paper, cut it etc)

and I sewed it on one side of the christmas ornament along with a heart shaped bead.

Then I took small pieces of fiberglass and I stuffed them.

Finally, I sewed the top of the ornament putting a piece of ribbon in between.

Ta-dah!!(A clear photo at last!)

And the felt christmas balls are ready to be put on the tree!!

Diy decoupage plate with inspirational quotes

 To tell you the truth, I always wanted to find out for myself how easy (or not) the decoupage method was. I didn't have the chance to actually see anyone doing it in front of me, so I was pretty curious and anxious if I could  transform an object into something new only by watching some videos on You tube or Pinterest. Well, I have to admit they have been very helpful and I can say that my first decoupage method has been rather succesful.
This is also my first time that I am presenting to you a diy project and I think it may not be as detailed as it should be.(The thing is I was so absorbed with the whole decoupage process that I didn't take as many photos as I ought to take in order to give you a more accurate, step by step procedure).
Anyway, I think you wouldn't have any problem with the project if you have a prior experience in decoupage but if you don't, then this video will definitely help you as it did in my case.

First of all, you will need an object that you want to transform into something new. It may be old and used or not but I think the most important thing if it is your first time will be to choose an object with a flat surface.I, for example, used an old plate which I was about to throw away. The paint had come off  since I had this plate to put some candles on and whenever I tried to clean it from the candle remains more and more red paint would come off. Well, the picture says it all...

Then I had to find pieces of paper to put them on the plate.I didn't want to put napkins or photos, I thought of putting some interesting quotes that I find very inspiring and optimistic. Pinterest had been most helpful on this stage I must admit. I found many quotes ( I prefered the ones with a black backround because I thought it would much the (remaining) red color of the plate) there and  I had to find the perfect size for them so they could fit into the plate. So  I did a lot of  copying, pasting and resizing in my computer and that took me quite a long time.
 Ok now let's go back to the things and tools you 'll need ( apart from the object you want to transform ):

• A pair of scissors
• A decoupage medium (Mod Podge or any other glue that is suitable for decoupage)
• Pieces of paper
• A big flat paint brush
• Glossy spray paint or liquid glass

Now, the decoupage method is pretty easy.You apply a thin coat of decoupage medium (Mod Podge etc) a) on the surface of the object, b) under the piece of paper and  c)  over the top of it.You have to wait for about half an hour in order to let it dry and that's it! If you would like to have  a glossy finish then you could use glossy spray paint or apply a coat of liquid glass.
Of course, I had to use an extra piece of paper in the center of the plate because I wanted to cover the part of the plate that the red paint had come off.  This gave a more vintage  look to the object and I think it kind of matched with the whole interesting quotes concept.
And ta da!!! All my favorite quotes in one place (Or should I say plate)!So inspirational for me...This plate will definitely make my day each time I have a look at it.

As I have mentioned in a previous post pastels are probably the ideal shades of color to celebrate spring and summer.All these memories come directly from our childhood days when a dress in baby blue,mint,pink or peach was not a part of our wardrobe but was practically all of it.No total black outfits,no black and white styling just these soft,romantic,dreamy pastels.So maybe that's why whenever we see them on a runway or in the streets we have this trip down memory lane...

So once again let Pinterest do all the talking and introduce us the refreshing mint, the color of mint/chocolate ice cream,of lovely dresses and shoes,of nail polish to name but a few...

What a better way to celebrate the end of spring and the beginning of summer than wear those lovely,soft shades of color?Are there any other colors that can make a girl's sweet and fragile side come out?I'm referring to pastel colors of course,the ones that add this extra romantic and tender touch to any look, the ones that derive straight from our childhood days when everything (or almost) felt like a fairytale.
And from all the pastels I would like to introduce you one of my own favorites- if not THE most favorite of all:
Baby blue, the color that looks nice to any skin tone and any hair color....So let the pictures of Pinterest do all the talking....

Well, last but not least  a picture of my all time favorite Verner Panton chair in baby blue.I couldn't help but post this one too, even if this post is all about fashion and styling...Just couldn't resist the temptation....But you can't blame me...Isn't it awfully cute??
